In order to curb the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic in Malaysia, by an official announcement made by the Prime Minister on 16 March 2020, the Government has decided to implement a nationwide movement control order from 18 to 31 March 2020 pursuant to the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.
Under the order, among others, all government and private premises will be closed, except those involved in essential services, namely water, electricity, energy, telecommunications, postal, transportation, irrigation, oil, gas, fuel, lubricants, broadcasting, finance, banking, health, pharmacy, fire, prison, port, airport, safety, defence, cleaning, retail and food supply.
Judiciary and legal services are not considered to be part of essential services. Therefore, all courts and legal firms in Malaysia are closed from 18 to 31 March 2020.
